HIS-Institute for Research on Higher Education

The task of the HIS-Institute for Research on Higher Education is to provide information, analyses and expertise concerning higher education and to further innovative developments, e.g. by way of consultancy. Our analysis activities are based on socio-empirical research methods and our expertise is founded on empirical evidence. We support higher education institutions and ministries introducing new steering models and reporting systems through concept formulation, consultancy and decision-making processes.

Through this work, we can, on the one hand, supply both higher education institutions and ministries with an important basis for decision-making concerning future-oriented planning; on the other, we can accompany and advise on the implementation of reform projects.

The HIS-Institute for Research on Higher Education is structured into the following project centres: Research on Students; Studies on Graduates and Lifelong Learning; Steering, Funding, Evaluation; and Methods and Services for Surveys.

Division III: Higher Education Development

The division Higher Education Development has the task of supporting the planning, steering and organisation of higher education institutions through consultancy on general work processes and specialist issues. The main areas of work are the organisation, infrastructure and construction of higher education institutions.

HIS also supports policy-makers concerning strategy development, mostly on questions of bundling resources, on implementing legislation that is higher education- and research-friendly and on integrative approaches to organisation, building/infrastructure and resources in higher education.

The Higher Education Development division comprises three project centres: Higher Education Development - Buildings; Higher Education Management and Higher Education Infrastructure.
